AN/SPN-6

AN/SPN-6 was control-approach equipment operating in F-band for medium and large aircraft carriers. The radar used a magnetron as RF-power source which was keyed by a thyratron and offers a choice of two pulse widths and two bandwidths.

The Antenna of the AN/SPN-6 used a parabolic reflector, fed by a horizontal polarized pyramidal feedhorn. It had a tilting reflector mechanism. The antenna forms a pencil beam. It’s vertical beamwidth was 2.5 degrees only. The antenna assembly was mounted atop a four-axis hydraulically stabilized base pedestal.

AN/SPN-6 was replaced by the AN/SPN-43, using the remaining stabilized pedestal.
